Mike Carter, Senior Director UK & Ireland for Continental Airlines, has taken over as Chairman of BAR UK - the trade association for full service scheduled airlines operating in the UK.

Mr Carter commented: "I am taking over the chairmanship of the trade association in difficult times for our industry and I shall do my best to work with my colleagues to help our members in overcoming the many challenges facing our industry currently."

He has succeeded Brandon O'Reilly, United Airlines General Manager for UK and Ireland, in the Chairman's post. Mike joined Continental Airlines in 1993. Prior to that he worked for GB Airways, Air Europe, and for many years with British Caledonian Airways and its predecessors. He is also a Chartered Accountant.

Mike chaired his first AGM for BAR UK this morning and introduced the key speaker, Miss Anne McIntosh, MP for the Vale of York and Shadow Minister for Transport. Miss McIntosh gave the BAR UK delegates her party's view on the current key issues for aviation.
