Press Release 5 August 2004 START... Mike Carrivick to succeed as Chief Executive of BAR UK BAR UK, the trade association for scheduled airlines, has named Mike Carrivick to succeed Peter North when he retires at the end of September. Mike Carrivick began his career as an apprentice with BEA, now British Airways, before moving on to Qantas with whom he spent twenty years. His airline experience also included Brymon Airways. In 1994 he was appointed MD of Maersk Travel and this led to membership of the Guild of Business Travel Agents (GBTA) where he was later elected Deputy Chairman. Since 2000 he has worked with IATA on passenger distribution policy issues. BAR UK's Chairman, Mike Carter, said of the appointment: " Mike Carrivick is joining BAR UK at a time when the members are looking to the trade association to make their views known to our government about the need for support to allow the industry to grow in a sustainable manner. Scheduled airlines pay for their own infrastructure, employ large numbers of people and offer extreme value to the travelling public. We are not seeking hand-outs, just equitable treatment." The BAR UK Chairman thanked Peter North for all that he had done to establish BAR UK as an organisation that spoke for the scheduled airlines in this country. He wished Peter a long and happy retirement. ... ENDS |
