| Press Release 20 May 2004
START... BAR UK's Chief Executive to retire Peter North, who has been Chief Executive of the trade association for scheduled airlines since 1995, is to retire at the end of September this year. Peter joined BAR UK from the British Aerospace Commercial Aircraft Company where he had been Director for Government Affairs. However, the major part of his career was in the airline business, having joined BEA (now British Airways) in 1965 in London and thereafter working overseas in the USA, continental Europe, the Caribbean, the UAE and south east Asia. He says that he will miss the people that he works with and meets through the job. However, he will not be sorry to give up the role of a long distance train commuter. It's a pity there are no flights to central London from Kent - they would be much better than ancient slam-door trains. BAR UK is now looking for a successor to take up the task of making the trade association members' needs known to Government, Whitehall, regulatory bodies, the news media, consumer groups and the general public, that can affect the ability of the industry to do business. A senior level package will be on offer for the successful candidate, but perhaps the real reward will come from involvement in a key industry at a vital time. More information is available on the BAR UK website at www.bar-uk.org. .... ENDS |
